Logos School Curriculum - Grade 7
- Textbook: Textbook -- "Exploring Science 1"
- Assesment: Tests (65% of mark) -1 test after each unit -approximately 4 units each term Homework (25% of mark) -homework will generally be set once a week -set on Thursday due on Monday -approximately 1 or 2 poster homework assignments each term Quizzes (10% of mark) -1 vocabulary quiz each unit Science Fair (approx 35% of 2nd term grade) -starting January students will create and conduct a scientific experiment at home -projects will be displayed and judged and awards will be given in March

- Assesment: Written essay / assignment completed at home on each chapter - 30% Tests on each chapter 70%
- Term 1: Sept / Oct Introduction to Geography ( Ch 1 - no assessment) Map work - including 6- figure grid references, scales, distance, contour lines, 8 points of the compass, symbols and keys. (Ch 2) November Settlements:- choosing a site, site shapes, settlement functions, urban models, urbanisation and redevelopment. (Ch 3) December Shopping:- Convenience and comparison goods, sphere of influence. Advantages and disadvantages of city centre shopping, out of town shopping and internet shopping. (Ch4)
- Term 2: January Exploring Britain / Cyprus: - Map of Cyprus, name and mark main towns, regions, mountains etc. Climate, population, immigration and economic activity. (Topics in the textbook used to teach about Cyprus rather than Britain.) Ch 5 February Rivers:- World rivers, Weathering, Rivers at work making landforms.(Ch6) March Floods:- Causes and consequences, coping with floods and flood prevention. Comparing floods in UK and Bangladesh. (Ch 7) April Football:- World football, jobs in football, fair-trade. (Ch 8)
- Term 3: May Earthquakes and Volcanoes:- Plate movements, causes and effects of earthquakes and volcanoes, coping with earthquakes and volcanoes. (CH 9)

- Assesment: Students are tested at the end of every sport section. Depending on the sport they are tested every 5-6 weeks. They are tested on their ability to perform sport skills learned in the weeks prior.
- Term 1: Students will learn basic dribbling and ball handling skills in Football. Students will learn basic serving and volleying skills in Tennis.
- Term 2: Students will learn basic dribbling, lay-ups, shooting and defending in Basketball. Students will learn basic serving and how to bump, set and spike in Volleyball.
- Term 3: In preparation for sports day students will be practicing running, throwing and jumping skills in General Athletics. Students will learn proper form from a professional instructor in Swimming.

- Assesment: Students are given homework 2-3 times a week and are tested every five lessons.
- Term 1: Students should have a comprehensive idea of the life of Christ. In total seven chapters are covered each containing 5-10 lessons. Christ's Example; Christ''s character traits explained: Meekness, Zeal, Compassion, and Holiness Christ's Major experiences including His birth, Baptism, death and resurrection.
- Term 2: Christ's Sermon on the Mount; Students should have a good understanding of the Beatitudes, the relationship between Christ and the Law, spiritual maturity, private devotion, spiritual priorities, fairness and discernment. Christ's Other Sermons; Students should have an understanding of Christ''s other sermons topics including: The New Birth, Eternal punishment, prayer, The Holy Spirit, Repentance, and so on. Christ's Friends and Enemies; students should understand who were the friends of Christ in his life and those who opposed His teachings and actions.
- Term 3: Christ's Miracles; Christ''s Godly power demonstrated in a physical way. Christ's Parables; understanding the dual meanings of Christ''s earthly stories with a heavenly meaning.

- Term 1: Clashing Rocks (Greek mythology--Jason and the Argonauts): Students will gain an understanding and appreciation of literature and be able to analyze and respond critically.
- Term 2: Anne of Green Gables (Canadian novel from 1800s) Read, discuss, answer comprehension questions and write responses to the play

- Assesment: Continual assessment. Drawing assignments not completed in class time are finished as homework. They are collected at start of each new assignment and marked. The average mark attained becomes the term grade.
- Term 1: Free hand sketching. Drawing using instruments: Parallel motion T square, 30/60 & 45/45 set squares, compass/radius aid template. Colour and shading techniques.
- Term 2: Lots of exercises developing precise drawing skills using instruments properly. Dimensionin & lettering.
- Term 3: Development of own design ideas given simple brief

- Assesment: Testing in 3 areas per term ie Grammar, Directed and Continuous Writing. One homework assignment weekly Classwork and discussion assessments throughout each term One final examinaion of one hour
- Term 1: Formal and informal writing, paragraphing, types of writing, explanation texts, instructional texts, descriptive texts, parts and kinds of speech, tenses. Focus especially on using speech in writing and two types of paragraphing in continuous writing assignments.
- Term 2: Persuasive writing, advertising, discursive writing,formal/informal advice,evaluations, reviews and structuring stories (plots, crises and resolutions) Revision of all grammar.
- Term 3: Narrative Writing and use of Imagery. Appreciation of literary texts. Revision for examination in Grammar and all skills relating to Directed and Continuous Writing.
- Other: Classwork and homework books required for the course. Much teacher direction is necessary initially to encourage students in presentation of work.

- Assesment: 15 end of unit tests - usually bi-weekly. 10 Aural tests throughout the year. A mathematical investigation each term
- Term 1: Revision of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Roman numerals. 2D and 3D Shapes - polygons and prisms, symmetry - line and rotational. Introduction to negative numbers. Coordinates. Line graphs. Bar charts. Pictograms. Tables and charts. Use of brackets in calculations. Square and cube numbers and square roots.
- Term 2: Fractions, decimals and percentages- finding equivalents, lowest terms and 'of an amount'. Introduction to Algebra - writing and solving equations for problems and sequences. Angles - measuring, estimating and drawing. Angles on a straight line and in a triangle.
- Term 3: Measures - length, mass, capacity - including reading scales, converting units. Time - calculating 24 hour clock, reading timetables and calendars. Perimeter and area, volume and capacity. Finding mean, mode, median and range. Calculating probability. Revision.
