Admission Information

  • Students can be enrolled from Kindergarten to Grade 13.

  • Students wishing to enter high school will be expected to write an entrance exam in English and Maths.
    • Topics covered in the English Entrance Exam

      Grade 7

      1. Knowledge of how to answer basic comprehension questions. Ability to extract required information from a passage and answer in full sentences.
      2. Ability to write a short essay of 100 words. Knowledge of setting out a paragraph and linking sentences accurately.
      3. Knowledge of the following grammatical areas:
        1. Parts of speech – noun, pronoun, adjective, adverb, verb, preposition and conjunction.
        2. Past, Present and Future tenses.
        3. Punctuation: full stop, comma, question mark, use of speech marks.
        4. Articles: a, an...
        5. Knowledge of literature – to have read at least 1 book and be prepared to describe the main events.

        Grade 8

        1. Comprehension skills:
          1. Extract required information
          2. Reasoning
          3. Meaning of unusual words (ability to guess intelligently)
          4. Prediction of what may happen according to the information given.
        2. Essay skills:
          1. Ability to write using 1 or 2 paragraphs
          2. Good vocabulary
          3. Accurate, well organised sentences
        3. Grammar:
          1. Punctuation – speech marks, commas, full stops, apostrophe, question marks
          2. Paragraphing a conversation accurately
          3. Parts of speech: ability to recognise nouns, adjectives, pronouns and verbs in sentences
          4. Use of present and past participles
          5. Verb-adjective-noun interchange
        4. Literature: a short description of a book.

        Grades 9-12

        1. Comprehension:
          1. Questions involving analysis and inference
          2. Full sentence answers
          3. Meanings of complicated words and phrases – intelligent responses
        2. Essay:
          1. Three paragraphs in lengths of 150-200 words
          2. Use of varied vocabulary
          3. More complex sentence structure
          4. Flair and imagination
        3. Grammar:
          1. Complex punctuation passage requiring all skills. Knowledge of all punctuation marks.
          2. Knowledge of parts of speech and identification of them in a passage
          3. Noun-verb-adjective-adverb interchange
        4. Literature: description of a book

      Grade 7

      1. Arithmetic – Addition, subtraction, multiplication & division of whole numbers.
      2. Fractions – Simplification, addition and decimal conversion.
      3. Decimals – Addition & Subtraction.
      4. Geometry – simple angle rules, area & perimeter.
      5. Basic problem solving – questions based on “real” life.

      Grade 8

      1. Arithmetic – Decimals, directed numbers & percentages.
      2. Fractions – Simplification, addition, decimal conversion.
      3. Geometry – Lines of symmetry, order of rotation, area, perimeter. Coordinates.
      4. Number – prime numbers, factors, multiples.
      5. Algebra – Basic formulae.
      6. Data – Data collection & Bar charts.

      Grade 9

      1. Arithmetic – Decimals, directed numbers, approximations, squares, square roots, ratios & percentages.
      2. Fractions – Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division & simplification.
      3. Geometry – Symmetry, area & triangles.
      4. Algebra – Simplification, linear equations, formulae & equations of lines.
      5. Data – Data collection & display.

      Grade 10

      1. Arithmetic – Decimals, directed numbers, approximations, squares, square roots, ratios & percentages.

      5. Trigonometry – Problem solving using sine, cosine and tangent. Sine & cosine rules.

      8. Probability – tree diagrams, independent & exclusive events.

  • Every student is interviewed personally by the principal before joining the school.
