12th Grade Options (September 2009)

Students must choose one subject from each of the options below. Students must have gained a B grade pass or above at IGCSE/GCSE/O Level or equivalent to be eligible to choose AS subjects. Students gaining a C grade pass, in an extended subject, may be eligible to join an existing class.

Students studying three or more AS subjects may choose to have a block of study periods instead of a fifth subject.

The alternatives to the AS subjects are school based 'diploma' subjects. They cover a wide range of skills leading towards the school diploma and are not examined externally. The school reserves the right to alter the non AS level subjects. Students may take a mixture of AS and 'diploma' subjects. AS subjects will also contribute towards the diploma. AS subjects are more demanding and will be weighted more heavily than the non AS subjects.

Optional subjects:

  1. Diploma English
or AS Biology or AS Computing or AS English Literature

  2. Diploma Science (Environmental Studies & Food and Nutrition)
or AS Geography or AS Art

  3. Diploma Maths
or AS Maths or AS Greek (Does not continue to A-Level)

  4. Applied ICT
    or AS French

  5. Leisure and Tourism
or AS Physics or AS Business

Compulsory subjects:

Physical Education

Religious Studies

Magazine (Dependent on the number of AS subjects taken)

Diploma

Students who have successfully reached 12th grade are working towards their school diploma, which is important for further study in Cyprus and in many other countries. Students who do not study for the AS exams will study school diploma subjects. There are no external exams or certificates for these subjects, but there will be end of year examinations.
